Heritage Grove Credit Union

Heritage Grove was one of my first clients when I started freelancing in 2011… and remains one of my faves. I do a variety of copywriting and production projects for this institution, including the monthly Connect eNews, the monthy eStatement email notification (starting summer 2014), and other member communications pieces which we distribute using Mailchimp.

Since winter of 2013, I also assisted Heritage Grove with its social media posts, first starting on Facebook, and graduating to managing both Facebook and Twitter feeds using Hootsuite starting in spring of 2014. We’ve steadily grown the followers for both social media platforms, and it is a privilege to help this member-driven organization reach out to its fans and friends in the credit union industry.

In addition, I help with the occasional Internet Banking banner ad, Powerpoint slide deck, or other item requiring a little graphics work in Photoshop, Illustrator, or InDesign. I love this client and its members!

Mid Oregon Credit Union

Mid Oregon Credit Union is the only member-owned financial institution founded and exclusively serving Central Oregon. Founded by educators in 1957, the institution has a strong presence in the community, supporting a wide variety of events and fundraisers that bolster kids and educators.

I’ve been working with Mid Oregon since May 2016, assisting with social media management and content, as well as helping with the occasional blog post or public event where some photos or other assets need to be collected for social media promotion.

I meet frequently with the Marketing Team to learn about what’s in the pipeline, and help to get those items promoted on the correct social media channel. We also work together on creating boosted/promoted posts on the various channels as well.

Partners Magazine

IMG_0106In Summer 2011 I was asked to work on a new magazine for Church Extension Plan, Partners. The magazine would focus on the innovative lending process at Church Extension Plan, designed especially for Assemblies of God ministries and other churches who needed church buildings to establish themselves in their communities.

The project was a lot of fun—working on engaging feature articles that focused on dedicated pastors, their families, and their vision to help make the world a better place. In addition to feature articles, Partners also included profiles of the CEP team, testimonials from investors at different stages of life, and information about other CEP products, including estate planning services, IRAs, retirement programs and budgeting tools for ministry professionals, and CEP’s non-profit organization “New Growth Partners.”

**On February 1, we learned that the Spring/Summer 2015 issue of Partners Magazine received a Gold Award from the SIAA (Service Industry Advertising Awards).

I was extremely fortunate to have the opportunity to interview and talk with many team members from CEP, as well as investors, pastors, and other partners in ministry from across the country, as part of this project. I was inspired every time I worked on an issue.

In addition, I had the privilege of working on Partners’ Spanish-language companion magazine, Compañeros. I reworked copy to prepare it for translation into Spanish, and wrote about products that were of particular interest to Hispanic families.

Website, UO Department of Economics

Spring/Summer 2014

During my tenure at the University of Oregon, I worked with the College of Arts and Sciences to implement the college’s new branding theme, and converted the entire Economics Department website from its former design. The new theme is cleaner, and required significant rewrites to page content to reduce wordiness and increase visual impact.

The updated theme also emphasized more department news in place of static pages. The design allowed me to integrate more student and faculty stories, photo galleries and personal profiles on the site, which blended seamlessly with the updated newsletter design and eNews projects we also brought online in the spring of 2014.

Feature articles, such as this one, which focused on in-class demonstrations and innovative instructional styles, were a large part of the new theme, and were featured on the home page using a tiled slideshow format.
Graduates from the Department of Economics went on to do amazing things after college. We followed up with students and shared their stories with current and prospective students.

Green Transportation Projects

Cascade Sierra Solutions

Beginning in 2011, I started working as a freelancer for Cascade Sierra Solutions, CSS Annual Report 2010 Cover_Page_01assisting with the writing and production of the organization’s 2010 Annual Report. The project involved interviewing numerous small trucking companies that were helped by Cascade Sierra’s innovative loan program, which combined loans and federal grants to assist in updating older, more polluted trucks with retrofits and replacements. Many of my credit union colleagues went to work in the company, to assist them with building sustainable loan programs.

I soon became a staff member, managing the company’s social media programs on Twitter and Facebook, and assisting with a variety of email, direct mail, and other marketing and public-relations programs and print pieces.

Cascade Sierra Solutions is no longer in operation, but it was a great organization filled with wonderful people.

  • Social media: In less than one year, I helped to increase CSS’ twitter followers from 60 to more than 500, and increased its Klout score from the low 20s to the high 40s.
  • Direct mail: Implemented a direct mail program to reach out to hundreds of small trucking companies where financing programs were in effect.
  • Truckstop Electrification. Assisted with signage, collateral materials, and email communications detailing a program to help truckers to plug in at electrified truckstops nationwide, drastically reducing emissions from engine idling.

Transenergy Solutionstransenergy-lg

I assisted with a number of event-planning projects with Transenergy Solutions, another short-lived organization that worked to educate the marketplace about green transportation and alternate-fuel vehicles. I began work as a contract worker, and became a staff member in the winter of 2012.

  • Email campaigns: Planned, created, and executed email campaigns to increase conference registrations using Mailchimp.
  • Updated and managed organization website using WordPress
  • Event planning using RegOnline. Worked with vendor to set up and use the new interface. Designed all registration forms, and partnered with other staff to manage the program.
  • Produced all conference programs, signage, and other print collateral.
  • Managed media relations, press coverage, and other public relations activities.
